Michigan Lions District 11 E2

GOVERNOR BEV BODEM'S FEBRUARY 2010 MESSAGE:

Lions, Lioness and Friends of Lions

District 11 E-2 Lions are extremely active in raising dollars for the many community and state projects so necessary in our efforts to assist with the needs of our areas. As I travel around the district attending meetings, it is heartening to learn what each club is doing for servicing the needs of those less fortunate. Fundraisers are a great part of Lions activities.

Our District Cabinet meeting was held Saturday, January 30 in Grayling at the Ramada Inn. There was a good turnout and good discussion and reports from Committee Chairs. The two candidates running for International Director from MD 11 were on hand to meet with 11 E-2 Lions.

The candidates are PCC Gary Anderson of District 11 C-1 and IPDG Linda Bosma of District 11 B-2. I am pleased with the number of Lions that attend each meeting. These meetings present the opportunity to network with other Clubs. Thank you to all for participating.

Just a reminder to Clubs who participate in the Peace Poster Contest. It's not too early to begin working on setting up the timeline for the Contest, especially ordering of the kits. Time has a way of going by so quickly that fall will be here before we know it. We will need to contact the schools in a timely manner asking for student participation in the program.

Membership is a continuing priority in District 11 E-2. We are working hard to increase membership. I am pleased to report that we added 17 new members in January with a year-to-date count of 34 new members. That doesn't include the drops. My goal is to break even by June 30, 2010. I encourage all Clubs to "keep what members you have now and add one." Remember President Eberhardt Wirfs' theme "MOVE TO GROW." It's all about: MEMBERSHIP! MEMBERSHIP! MEMBERSHIP!

VICE DISTRICT GOVERNOR BILL STENBACK'S FEBRUARY MESSAGE:

Hello Lions, Lionesses and Leos of District 11-E-2. Yet another month has gone by and we are all looking forward to February 14th Valentine's Day.

Our district has made great strides in recovering from our loss of 50+ Lions as of July, 2009 to only -20 some at the end of December, 2009. Let's keep up the excellent efforts in obtaining new Lion members, and by June, 2010 we can show a positive gain.

What are you looking at this spring to bring in new Lion members or prospective members? How about this for a District Lions Club challenge to bring in new prospects and make a few dollars at the same time?

Each club runs a Sadie Hawkins Day Dance. Sell tickets to all ages and make sure you only sell to the gals, as they are the ones who have to catch their dates. It will be fun, and it will take you back a few years. Most of you may have done this in high school. However, it will be work and a lot of fun and possibly bring in a few new members.

On a heavier note, the following list is of open positions for the district chairpersons. Please look at yourselves and see if any of these are for you. This first one requires one person to do three jobs, as they are all related. Jan Bassett has done it well for years and needs a rest.

1. District Editor for LIONS PRIDE, District Newsletter and District Public Relations & Publication Advisor
2. District Elections
3. Hearing and Speech/Work with the Deaf
4. International Convention
5. International Understanding & Cooperation
6. Leo Clubs
7. MD-11 Convention Committee
8. Membership orientation
9. Sergeant at Arms
10. Sight Conservation/Diabetes Awareness Committee
11. Strategic Planning
12. Youth Exchange
13. Welcome Homes
We are still looking for Zone chairs in Region I: Zone 1 & Zone 2. Region II: chair maybe and Zones 1 & 2. Region III: maybe, and Zone 1 maybe.
Last but not the least is 2nd VDG position. Remember Region chair is an elected position, and you must have your letter of intent signed by your Lions Club President and submitted by your club Secretary to District and State Offices by May 1, 2010.
